And April's UFO is....

Well March is over...how is that possible?  Because April is on Saturday they announced the UFO number today.... And what does my number 11 look like? March was great for sewing UFOs but somehow the knitting fell behind in February and March. The chair got reupholstered and I also managed to start the "LOVE" quilt which I hope to finish sometime in April.  Those were blogged about here .  So April's UFO will be this: I plan on using fabric that I have in my stash to make this cute little thing.  It will be a wonderful addition to the sewing room.  Aside from making the sewing machine, I plan on making some example quilt blocks to hang in one of my bedrooms.  I thought they would make great "deco" items.  They would be unfinished mini-blocks like " Ohio Star ", " Disappearing 9 Patch ", " Log Cabin Block ", " Star Flower Quilt Block " and " Framed Pinwheel ".  We will see if this turns o

Just a little accident....

I was happily sewing at home the other day quilting on a baby quilt for an office mate.  The sewing machine was humming, I had my quilting mo-jo and then all of sudden... I looked down the needle was broken and stuck in the plate and my finger was bleeding.  My first thought was... was there blood spilled on that snowy white sashing?  And my next thought was... wow I just ran the needle in my finger.   There is a first time for everything! Well I bandaged my finger up, dug the remains of the needle out of the throat plate and continued on my way.  Luckily my mo-jo came back and I was able to finish quilting and binding this lovely baby quilt.  My office mates pieced it together and my job is usually to do the quilting and binding. I also finished another Etsy order.  These farms quilts are so popular.   I wish I could get some orders for the jungle/zoo quilt and the planes/trains/car quit as well.  I love her choice of the tye-dye green!

First race!

St. Pat's is always a fun time here in Manhattan.  Usually the college kids are away for spring break and this celebration is a great time for the locals to get out and enjoy the day.  We all decided this year to participate in the race/walk... AJ even came down from KC and joined us! Dani, AJ and I accompanied Madden on her first ever 2 mile walk, while Allison, Drew and Dan did the 2 mile run.   Madden was  a real trooper.  Look at how exhausted this child is...riding in that stroller for 2 miles is hard work!  And she got her first ever ribbon for a race! One of the things I was going to miss the most at the old house was our beautiful red bud tree.  Well the other day as I went out to get the mail, I realized that this tree was welcoming me with it's beautiful buds.  I saw it as a sign that said "yes, everything will be ok...you are really home now!"

Another Quilt Retreat

It's been a busy March so far and it all started with a Spring Quilt Retreat with my favorite "Crazy Eights"! We tried a different venue for our quilt retreat and I would say we hit a home run with Sew Cozy Quilt Lodge .  The place sleeps 10 with five bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.  Each "themed" bedroom has a twin bed...and I say "themed" because the decor in each bedroom is just cute as can be.  The best part about the place is the quilt/sewing room!  Each person has 2 two tables and a design wall!! We had seven of our members present for this retreat and there was so much beauty being created! The "LOVE" squares were my work.  For the first day I decided I would tackle a UFO which really wasn't a quilting project.  I had an old rocking chair that needed a new slipcover.  I have had the fabric for several months.  I didn't have much motivation to work on the slipcover.  I order to go on the retreat I told myself I had to work on

It's March and what happened to February?

You Well it is March....which means that there is a new UFO Challenge.  And that number is....TWELVE! The Lone Star Quilt is a real UFO.  I must of started it years ago when the kids were really young and never managed to finish it. I bought this yarn about 5 years ago on my first trip to NY.  I was there over Labor Day weekend and Sarah took me to the Lion Bran NY Flagship store.  I manged to use up most of the yarn I bought there but still have a couple of balls that will be used for a wonderful cowl. I had a bunch of things that I wanted to blog about but just didn't get it done.  So what else got finished in February?  Well here's a quick overview of what I had been working on since my last post: My daughter had three baby showers.  And I thought why not try to get all of those congrats and well-wishes into one place and what better way than in a signature quilt?  I used this tutorial for the pattern. For the past 3 years, a good friend and
