Saturday sewing

Today I am trying to finish up a custom quilt.  I had posted about it earlier.  I just had to finish putting the binding on. I don't hand sew my binding.  Instead I like to use the buttonhole stitch on my sewing machine (#329)...note the settings:


It works really well for me:


It also helps when your binding cooperates and the stitching just disappears. 

It's finished and ready to send of to it's new owner. I hope it brings them much joy!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Another trip last fall , this time Boston

As soon as I got home from NY last November, I turned around and left for Boston, to visit the Princess. It was so nice to see her again.  I came in on Thursday and left on Sunday.  It was another short visit, but we sure packed a lot in! It was bitterly cold in Boston, in fact it was the coldest all year and they were setting records for low temperatures in the evening.  But that did not stop us from venturing out! On Friday she took me on a tour of her school and her classroom.  And as we were leaving I got to meet the teacher she is working with.  The school is so convenient,  just a short 15 minute walk from their apartment. We also explored Brookline a neighborhood that is just a few blocks from them.  It is full of wonderful restaurants and cute boutiques.  We found a knitting store and some wonderful children's stores.  It was so hard not to buy a bunch of things for the grand!! It's March and what happened to February?

You Well it is March....which means that there is a new UFO Challenge.  And that number is....TWELVE! The Lone Star Quilt is a real UFO.  I must of started it years ago when the kids were really young and never managed to finish it. I bought this yarn about 5 years ago on my first trip to NY.  I was there over Labor Day weekend and Sarah took me to the Lion Bran NY Flagship store.  I manged to use up most of the yarn I bought there but still have a couple of balls that will be used for a wonderful cowl. I had a bunch of things that I wanted to blog about but just didn't get it done.  So what else got finished in February?  Well here's a quick overview of what I had been working on since my last post: My daughter had three baby showers.  And I thought why not try to get all of those congrats and well-wishes into one place and what better way than in a signature quilt?  I used this tutorial for the pattern.
