Let's start again....

 WOW...Where do you start?


You would of thought that I would of wanted to do this blog during the pandemic...but I didn't.  I always wonder why I start and stop...why I can't keep up.  Maybe I run out of things to say or maybe there is just too much going on to share my thoughts on a blog post.  Who knows?

What did get me starting to think about blogging again was a question that was asked from someone I follow...."how do you record your projects, do you use Instagram, Facebook, blog, paper..?"  Which led to a bigger question... what do you want to record... your life, your projects, your travels??  That is alot to put out to the world.. But I think what I do want to record are my projects...the hows, they whys and especially the "whats".   What yarn did I use to make that teddy bear, what size needle did I use to knit that blanket, what was the free pattern for that quilt?

So here I am again attempting to document yet again.  

I am really not too far off since my last post was in March of last year... pre pandemic.  So let's start there. 

After the retirement libary quilt, and before the pandemic hit, I did a few random projects.  The spare bedroom had a heart themed bedrunner but I decided that the walls needed a little "heart" decor as well.  I made a couple of 12in "heart" blocks from scraps and framed them...easy, easy decor!  


The blocks were foundation pieced patterns and came from Center Street Quilts Etsy shop:

I also love making paper pieced cards, and Valentine's Day is always perfect for those.

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Sewing interruptions

Sometimes the sewing needs to get put aside for real life.  This is one of those times. My husband and I have lately been maniacs about our house remodel.  Early this year, what started out to be painting walls ended up in a total remodel of our upstairs... New doors, bathroom sinks, new bathroom floor, kitchen countertops, stained cupboards, kitchen tile etc etc It took us 7 months.  I thought we would take a break.  He wanted to redo the landscape in the front.   So out can 25 yr old bushes, a basketball goal etc etc I thought we would take a break.  Now we are repainting our house...in July...when the heat index is 110!! The mister clearly needs to leave town and quickly...  please someone call a water conference ASAP!!!

It's the fourth day of "I made it week"!

Well it is the 4th day of "I made it week" so I guess I need to catch up. Tuesday's choice was this easy knit shift made from fabric that I've had in my stash for over a year.   I thought it turned out pretty well.  I have a knit dress that I bought from Gap that I absolutely love.  This pattern from McCall's was a close fit with the exception of the neckline.  So I adjusted the neckline and it was perfect!   I chose this method for finishing the neckband.  In this dress I chose to stitch in the ditch (between the dress and the neckband at the seam) but the inside tends to turn out.   You can see that below: On my next dress I actually sewed the seam down by top stitching on the dress as the tutorial suggested. I have to say that Wednesday was a bit of a challenge.  The weather has taken a little dip on the cool side, not that I don't mind... but it did throw me for a loop on the third day of the challenge.
