Best present of 2016!

Wow! So much has happened! But first things first, Our family received the best Christmas present ever! Madden Jeanne was born to our second daughter on Thursday December 15th.

And we are all smitten with her as is evident by this picture:

And Nana and Gramps are the most smitten!

I really wish I could find this hat pattern but for the life of me I can't figure out where I saved it! It really is the cutest thing!

My daughter had 3 baby showers. So I made her a signature quilt that we took to the showers for her friends to sign. I plan to add a piece at the bottom with her name. The pattern can be found here.

I was so happy to find out that this was her "coming home"outfit! The knitted baby sweater which can be found on Ravlery. One of these days it will fit her perfectly!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic. But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again. There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant". There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized. At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated. We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them ar...

My first "I made it" week!!

Well this was my very first "I made it" week and even though the weather wasn't the best I think it was a success. Friday was my last day and as you can see from the collage above this was my choice for the day: Looks a lot like the pattern right? This was so easy to put together especially since there wasn't a zipper. This was cut as a size 8, something that I am still not used to. I still add extra on the hips so I grade it out to a size 12. My daughter would say that my clothes are too loose but I would say that they are nice and comfy!! This pattern essentially has 2 collars to achieve the look. I skipped the pockets. I find that unless they are stitched down they usually add bulk to the sides. I realize that most people leave reviews on the pattern and that is something that I have neglected to do so here goes.... Pattern sizing: size 8 graded to a size 12'at the hips. Updated Porch

So creativity for me isn't always about fiber, it applies to just about every aspect of my life. My latest adventure has to do with my front porch. There have been many memories made on this front porch. My bench has captured many "first day" of school photos, family gatherings and all sorts of milestones such as first communions, proms etc. maybe that's why it's been so hard to make changes. The memories aren't going away and there are lots of new memories to make. But I digress... The front porch. This front porch has had these barrels for as long as I can remember. They've been a focal point. Know what happens to a barel that's been around for that long? Yup... The bottom falls out!! It was definitely time!! The bench stays, I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to that one yet. Here's to many more photos and memories on this front porch!!
