My sewing space

About a year ago I blogged about our move to a new home and I showed some pictures of my sewing space.  A year later and that sewing space has seen lots of activities.  Bernina's blog weallsew.com celebrated National Sewing month by offering a contest to win some prizes by entering a post on your sewing space. I decided to participate.  So I am sharing my post: Last year my hubby wanted to move to a new house.  I had just finished organizing my sewing room, had bought shelving specifically for my fabric and I had to dismantle the whole thing. Our new home had a walk out basement room that the previous owners had used for a workout room.  We really don’t work out nor did we want to spend the money buying equipment for a work out room.  My husband decided that he would it turn into a sewing room for me. This room is big, about 35ftx16ft, it runs the length of the house.   It is about 3 times the size of my previous sewing room! The first picture that you see is the v

National Jelly Roll Day

Saturday September 16, was the first ever National Jelly Roll day and I decided months ago that I would participate! So many bloggers and companies were on board for this event and it was so much fun to see all the offers by various bloggers and vendors for those that participated. I know that this event was for a jelly roll but I had a honey bun in my stash that I had bought at a Quilt Shop Hop about 3 years ago and since I am on a "purge that stash" roll, that is what I used. I have been looking at the "Summer in the Park" pattern and Missouri Star Quilt had a t utorial using honey buns. This is what my honey bun strips looked like: After sewing the first couple of strips and then creating the tube, I was a little apprehensive about how it would turn out.   When the blocks were cut out and pressed, I got a little more excited: And as I started putting the blocks together, I absolutely fell in love! I have some extra pieces left so I thi

What is the September UFO

Yes we are more than half way through September I have have not blogged about the September UFO Challege.  I feel like I've been on the run this entire month! So here it is....  What does this mean for me?  Well for sewing it is perfect as I have a fall project selected.  I had one selected in August as well but did that get done?  NO!  At the rate September is flying by, it will be interesting to see if this gets done!   September is a bomber jacket for Madden.  I have some of the yarn but not all.  I am re-thinking about making this jacket or substituting another pattern where I actually have the yarn. So August wasn't a total bust as I did get my knitting UFO done and not just one month of the UFO but another month of the UFO, which hasn't been selected yet!  I posted this picture on Facebook and it was mentioned in their monthly LIVE session! These hats will be going to our local chemo center to be distributed to those who might need a hat f

And now we are a Bostonian!

Well we go the kids moved into their apartment....                                   Dad was a little tired from the previous day's pre-game events. But Allison and I managed to get a dresser put together! Allston is not what I expected at all...it is truly a little college area nestled around Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and MIT....wow!! BU is a few stops east on the metro, Allison's School Jackson/Mann is a short 15 minute walk... and that is their life for the next three years. Our hotel had a great view of the St. Charles River and in the morning we could see the BU rowing crew practicing. After 2 days of shopping, putting together furniture, unpacking etc,  Drew  started Law School and Allison started student teaching.   Dan and I decided to explore the city.  We chose to do the Freedom Trail.  It is a historic walk of Boston tracing some of the steps that led to the Boston Tea Party and the Revolutionary War.
