October UFO

Another month has started which means it's another UFO.  I could get depressed about what I haven't been able to finish but instead I think I will be thankful for what I have finished!  So with that, what's up for October?



What does this mean for me?   Well as far as sewing is concerned that means that my October UFO is the USA Map.   I'd love to get this done and put it upstairs in my themed "vacation room".



And what does it mean for knitting?  I had chemo hats down but since those are all finished I modified my list to make knitted knockers.  How appropriate for breast cancer awareness month!


This challenge has been good and I have been to focus on things in my stash.  


Speaking of stash, Sherri from A Quilting Life blog had a great tutorial on a patchwork bag.  I had some mini charm packs that I have been trying to figure out what to do with and this was the perfect project.


Sew the squares together add some batting....fast and quick!  Her instructions were super easy to understand.



This was totally a stash project as I had everything needed for the bag, even the zipper!!


I have more mini charm squares and I think a couple of these would make great Christmas presents!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Sewing interruptions

Sometimes the sewing needs to get put aside for real life.  This is one of those times. My husband and I have lately been maniacs about our house remodel.  Early this year, what started out to be painting walls ended up in a total remodel of our upstairs... New doors, bathroom sinks, new bathroom floor, kitchen countertops, stained cupboards, kitchen tile etc etc It took us 7 months.  I thought we would take a break.  He wanted to redo the landscape in the front.   So out can 25 yr old bushes, a basketball goal etc etc I thought we would take a break.  Now we are repainting our house...in July...when the heat index is 110!! The mister clearly needs to leave town and quickly...  please someone call a water conference ASAP!!!

Book Shelf Retirement Quilt

Another woman is retiring from the library.  Mary has been a large part of the library quilting group and has been involved in so many retirement quilts for others.  So many of the original library quilting group have retired and she was basically one of the last ones left.  Three of us from the library along with three others who work on campus or are retired librarians decided to work on a quilt for her.  And now that it is her turn and we wanted to make her something really nice.We know she wanted a book shelf quilt and we used this pattern to make her one: Everyone used the same background fabric and we used our stash to make the bookends.  When I put them together, the scrappiness of all the bookends gave the quilt such a wonderful look.  The sashing in between the blocks was used to have colleagues sign and leave messages of farewell and good luck for Mary.  I made three of the blocks for this quilt.  The first block in on the second ...
