It's the fourth day of "I made it week"!

Well it is the 4th day of "I made it week" so I guess I need to catch up.

Tuesday's choice was this easy knit shift made from fabric that I've had in my stash for over a year.

I thought it turned out pretty well.  I have a knit dress that I bought from Gap that I absolutely love.  This pattern from McCall's was a close fit with the exception of the neckline.  So I adjusted the neckline and it was perfect!

I chose this method for finishing the neckband.  In this dress I chose to stitch in the ditch (between the dress and the neckband at the seam) but the inside tends to turn out.   You can see that below:

On my next dress I actually sewed the seam down by top stitching on the dress as the tutorial suggested.

I have to say that Wednesday was a bit of a challenge.  The weather has taken a little dip on the cool side, not that I don't mind... but it did throw me for a loop on the third day of the challenge. All of the dress I have made so far are for nice hot days.  While putting a sweater would of been fine, my legs would of been a tad chilly.  So I dug out an old favorite that I made 2 years ago, paired it a cute pair of polka dot pants, added a cardigan and I was good to go.

I believe this is a McCall's pattern but when I looked online for it, I couldn't find it.  I can't believe they discontinued it!   I found this eyelet fabric and knew that the border would be just perfect for this top.  It has princess seams with a side zipper.  Speaking of zippers, I ONLY use invisible zippers!! It is the ONLY way to go in my humble opinion.  When my girls were in 4-H we only used invisible zippers and they have grown to appreciate them as much as their mom.  But I digress...since this was made out of eyelet fabric I did choose to line it.  Like I said this has been a good staple in my wardrobe.  I am on the lookout for a similar fabric in black as I am constantly wishing I had a version of this top in that color.

And now we are on the 4th day!
This fabric has been in my stash for a little while and was part of a "Sewalong" project.  After it sat around in my "to-do" pile, I lost interest in the original pattern.  Are you like me and when Joann's has a big sale on patterns you automatically go and buy them because they are cheap??  Well my pattern stash is growing.  While this pattern is very similar to Tuesday's outfit there are some differences.  This pattern is not made specifically for a knit since a dart is included in the pattern.  While I don't always chose to add a dart when I use knit, I did for this dress and was happy I did.  It just fit better.  I finished the neck binding much the same way as Tuesday's dress but did tack the seam down by sewing it down on the finished side on the dress side and not "in the ditch".

I know it's a little tough to see here but the stitching is on the "dress" which helps hold the seam down.

So that's it for today.  One day left and I think I'll be able to finish the week, with one dress to spare!  I know some have done a "Me Made Month" but I am not sure that is something I would be able to accomplish.. but it sure would be fun trying!

Book Shelf Retirement Quilt

Another woman is retiring from the library.  Mary has been a large part of the library quilting group and has been involved in so many retirement quilts for others.  So many of the original library quilting group have retired and she was basically one of the last ones left.  Three of us from the library along with three others who work on campus or are retired librarians decided to work on a quilt for her.  And now that it is her turn and we wanted to make her something really nice.We know she wanted a book shelf quilt and we used this pattern to make her one: Everyone used the same background fabric and we used our stash to make the bookends.  When I put them together, the scrappiness of all the bookends gave the quilt such a wonderful look.  The sashing in between the blocks was used to have colleagues sign and leave messages of farewell and good luck for Mary.  I made three of the blocks for this quilt.  The first block in on the second row and has a the purple books and the

Craft night!

Daughter #3 and I have been wanting to do a craft night for quite awhile. When our local studio offered this Map String Art class I knew we just had to go!  The class was set up to do the map in red, white and blue.  We didn't want to have two of the same thing so I decided to do mine in different colors.  I went out and bought ... you guessed it .. purple and white string!! We had so much fun!!  think they turned out pretty well!  Here's a close up of mine after I cleaned it up: This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  They used this site for their inspiration: http://thetwinery.com/2013/08/inspired-by-pinterest-map-twine-art.html I think I'd like to do one of our home state of Kansas next.  Pinterst had some pretty good sites; http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2014/10/missouri-love.html#_a5y_p=2693507 And finally here's a picture of our class: I can't wait for our next craft night!!

Another Quilt Retreat

It's been a busy March so far and it all started with a Spring Quilt Retreat with my favorite "Crazy Eights"! We tried a different venue for our quilt retreat and I would say we hit a home run with Sew Cozy Quilt Lodge .  The place sleeps 10 with five bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.  Each "themed" bedroom has a twin bed...and I say "themed" because the decor in each bedroom is just cute as can be.  The best part about the place is the quilt/sewing room!  Each person has 2 two tables and a design wall!! We had seven of our members present for this retreat and there was so much beauty being created! The "LOVE" squares were my work.  For the first day I decided I would tackle a UFO which really wasn't a quilting project.  I had an old rocking chair that needed a new slipcover.  I have had the fabric for several months.  I didn't have much motivation to work on the slipcover.  I order to go on the retreat I told myself I had to work on
