My love affair with M6102

My love affair with M6102 continues:

My most recent version is this double sided knit that I found at Joann's:

I used the stripes for the dress and the polka dot side for the neck binding which I thought added some nice contrast:

The back side has a deeper cut which I copied from a dress that I purchased from Land's End. I just loved how it looked and on a hot day that deeper cut in the back sure can make a difference! I think I need to add a shoulder bra strap holder to keep the shoulders from slipping.

You can see how I finished the neck with a more traditional binding. I just like the look and feel of this method so much better.

My serger wasn't working too well the day I did this but I just didn't want to take the time to work on the tension. I just wanted to get this dress done!

I have one more piece that I want to make using this pattern and then I might be done until next spring!

Fall is just around the corner so I am trying to transition into what I'll be making for the new season. So many great new patterns!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic. But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again. There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant". There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized. At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated. We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Sewing interruptions

Sometimes the sewing needs to get put aside for real life. This is one of those times. My husband and I have lately been maniacs about our house remodel. Early this year, what started out to be painting walls ended up in a total remodel of our upstairs... New doors, bathroom sinks, new bathroom floor, kitchen countertops, stained cupboards, kitchen tile etc etc It took us 7 months. I thought we would take a break. He wanted to redo the landscape in the front. So out can 25 yr old bushes, a basketball goal etc etc I thought we would take a break. Now we are repainting our house...in July...when the heat index is 110!! The mister clearly needs to leave town and quickly... please someone call a water conference ASAP!!!

It's the fourth day of "I made it week"!

Well it is the 4th day of "I made it week" so I guess I need to catch up. Tuesday's choice was this easy knit shift made from fabric that I've had in my stash for over a year. I thought it turned out pretty well. I have a knit dress that I bought from Gap that I absolutely love. This pattern from McCall's was a close fit with the exception of the neckline. So I adjusted the neckline and it was perfect! I chose this method for finishing the neckband. In this dress I chose to stitch in the ditch (between the dress and the neckband at the seam) but the inside tends to turn out. You can see that below: On my next dress I actually sewed the seam down by top stitching on the dress as the tutorial suggested. I have to say that Wednesday was a bit of a challenge. The weather has taken a little dip on the cool side, not that I don't mind... but it did throw me for a loop on the third day of the challenge. All of the d...
