July Happenings...

Since these are catch up posts for the month of July, here are the other happenings....

What do you do with all of those flowers left over from a wedding? You decorate your house with them!

Hubby had a birthday...

 And a visit was made to see great-grandpa in Lawrence.  Someone loved moving the bed up and down.  Three generations of the Pacumbaba clan

These mug rugs were made for hard working colleagues who had dealt with the fire recovery and are still dealing with the fire recovery.  The inspiration for the mug rugs came from here.

Mimi got a new house cleaner...

And as a reward she got to spend lots of time at the pool... eating snacks of course!

And Mimi and Papa did some baby sitting...

 We did not know we weren't supposed to play with Mama's makeup...


And another visit was made to celebrate dad's birthday...

And since it is July, it is peach jam time!

We got our bikes out for the first time in 3 years and went on a little bike ride with the family...

And I managed to get a little bit of sewing done...
The winter bedrunner got a border and is ready for the quilter.  The pattern is from Intrepid Thread an and was a Quilt Along called Cottage Christmas.  The instructions can be found here.

I started these blocks using Cupcake Recipe #2 and some charm packs in my stash, Me and My Sister's Twirl.  I am hoping it will become a quilt for Baby Girl Brunner.  


It was another busy month... and when July ends I really feel like summer is ending.

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Sewing interruptions

Sometimes the sewing needs to get put aside for real life.  This is one of those times. My husband and I have lately been maniacs about our house remodel.  Early this year, what started out to be painting walls ended up in a total remodel of our upstairs... New doors, bathroom sinks, new bathroom floor, kitchen countertops, stained cupboards, kitchen tile etc etc It took us 7 months.  I thought we would take a break.  He wanted to redo the landscape in the front.   So out can 25 yr old bushes, a basketball goal etc etc I thought we would take a break.  Now we are repainting our house...in July...when the heat index is 110!! The mister clearly needs to leave town and quickly...  please someone call a water conference ASAP!!!

Elephant and Chevron Nursery Basket Set

I have been busy making nursery accessories for a very dear friend's daughter.  The daughter who happens to be a good friend of my daughter #1 asked if I would make some fabric hampers and basket for their new baby.  I of course said yes, thinking it would be lots of fun and super easy. Well I always seem to underestimate projects, supplies and etc.  She asked for 2 fabric hampers and 4 fabric baskets, all to fit an older entertainment center that they were converting for their nursery.  They had grey and mint picked out for nursery colors.  After a few emails back and forth we came up with some grey and mint chevron fabric and some elephant fabric from Premier Prints. The first laundry hamper took me 3 nights, the second one only one evening.  Once I got things figured out the process was much smoother!
