Another quilt retreat in the books!

In April our Crazy Eights had another retreat. It was another wonderful weekend of quilting with these wonderful ladies!

These retreats are so great for the soul... so much laughter, sharing and wonderful talent!

We had so many silly moments...
Only 3/4 of use made it for the first night so we sent out a text to others that we were missing them!

The food was as amazing...as you can see here...two plates for Sheryl!

We also got tattoos...temporary of course and even posted it to Facebook.  Of course none of our friends believed us!

We have been going to Sew Cozy Lodge for a year now and was one of the first groups to come to the lodge.  We love Lori the owner and decided she needed a quilt to represent the eight of us.  We decided to do a block swap among us and used the Dwell Block pattern from Camille's book...  We also decided to make blocks for Lori.   Marie put all the blocks together and I quilted and did the the binding.  When we presented it to her she as just shocked.  It was the first quilt that anyone had ever made for her!!

There is so much talent in this group and everyone has such different tastes.

Debbie had been working on these wool blocks at our sewing camps and finally got them all done and put together

At our July Quilt retreat last year, we celebrated Debbie's birthday and got her one of the Cake Mix Recipes by Miss Rosie.  Her is the quilt she made from the Cake Mix Recipe:

It makes me just want to make one for me!

Terrie once again had quilts that just screamed her:

Ange continues to astound us with her quilts

Esther wins the prize for the most quilts done!  I was only able to capture this one while we were there.

But she dropped these off the Lori to quilt while we were there for the weekend:

I need to learn how Esther can get so much done!!

Marie is one very talented women...just look at these quilts!

The rest of us did not have quilts on the wall but we sure did get a lot done!

While the rest were turning out works of art, I was busy working on Easy orders.  First up were the lanyards for Foundation.

March was such a busy month for Etsy orders!  I'll blog about those later.  One of the quilts was the "Car, planes, trains and things that go" quilt.  It was the first Etsy order that I had received of this quilt.  I spent most of the retreat working on the Etsy quilts.  I was able to piece all the strips and appliqué all of the pieces.

This quilt gave me a little more trouble as I decided to use a polyester lofty batting that Lori no longer needed...and I can could see why.   The quilt was indeed more lofty that I had been used to and had to do some additional work to make the pieces not look quite so "poofy".  I used some invisible thread to sew around some of the windows and I secured the buttons so that it went through all the layers.  This helped "ground" the appliquéd pieces and it looked much better.

While I didn't get to work on something for me, I made great progress on Etsy orders...making me money as well!

We also decided that we were going to have "quilt wills" since we know our families won't want our quilts... Angie and I have our eyes on a couple of Esther's!!

As always it was a wonderful weekend of sharing, laughing and making great memories.  I can't wait for the next one.

Book Shelf Retirement Quilt

Another woman is retiring from the library.  Mary has been a large part of the library quilting group and has been involved in so many retirement quilts for others.  So many of the original library quilting group have retired and she was basically one of the last ones left.  Three of us from the library along with three others who work on campus or are retired librarians decided to work on a quilt for her.  And now that it is her turn and we wanted to make her something really nice.We know she wanted a book shelf quilt and we used this pattern to make her one: Everyone used the same background fabric and we used our stash to make the bookends.  When I put them together, the scrappiness of all the bookends gave the quilt such a wonderful look.  The sashing in between the blocks was used to have colleagues sign and leave messages of farewell and good luck for Mary.  I made three of the blocks for this quilt.  The first block in on the second row and has a the purple books and the

Another Quilt Retreat

It's been a busy March so far and it all started with a Spring Quilt Retreat with my favorite "Crazy Eights"! We tried a different venue for our quilt retreat and I would say we hit a home run with Sew Cozy Quilt Lodge .  The place sleeps 10 with five bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.  Each "themed" bedroom has a twin bed...and I say "themed" because the decor in each bedroom is just cute as can be.  The best part about the place is the quilt/sewing room!  Each person has 2 two tables and a design wall!! We had seven of our members present for this retreat and there was so much beauty being created! The "LOVE" squares were my work.  For the first day I decided I would tackle a UFO which really wasn't a quilting project.  I had an old rocking chair that needed a new slipcover.  I have had the fabric for several months.  I didn't have much motivation to work on the slipcover.  I order to go on the retreat I told myself I had to work on

It's the weekend!

It's the weekend and my head is just spinning with all the things that I want to get done! Do I work on the first block of Leah Day's Machine  Quilting Block Party?                                                                             Do I keep the same color combinations or do I make it scrappy and try to use scraps from my stash? Or do I just buy a bunch of the same fabric and make all the blocks the same?  So many choices and so many decisions!!     I also have 2 orders on my Etsy site which need to get started.  My goal for the store this year was to try to get at list one quilt order a month and so far I am there.  The next one will look just like the last one I did but she does not want buttons used for the eyes and nostrils: I also want to work on my Style Arc Estelle Jacket. I bought these ponte knit from Joann's.  I made both colors for my oldest daughter and they just fit the pattern style so well.  I went back and bought more ya
