This one is a keeper

As I said in an earlier post, I have collected quite a few StyleArc patterns.  The Kristin Dress is one of them: I have made this several times and my latest is a purple version made out of a medium weight ponte knit from Hancock.  That piece of fabric had been sitting in my stash for quite awhile.  Originally I wanted to find some purple pleather or leather to use for the pockets.  But after visiting NY Mood on two separate occasions and forgetting to purchase some I gave up on the idea.  And leather can be so expensive even for just a small piece! This pattern should be a staple in everyone's wardrobe.  It is easy and very versatile.  You can dress it up with a nice scarf and heels or dress it down with leggings and even a jean jacket.  I am not fond of having my picture taken but sometime it is necessary just to see how a garment fits on a real body. This is the second time I made this dress.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to b...

Finally a pair of culottes!

I have been wanting to make this pair of culottes for quite awhile and this pattern has been in my possession for quite awhile. I had a some navy benagline that I had bought from fabric.com and it has been in my stash for quite awhile. Benagline is wonderful fabric but the stretch goes length-wise, along the selvage so you need to adjust if you want to make use of the stretch. But as I started laying out the pattern I realized that I was going to have to be creative as I was going to be a little short on fabric. These are a pretty easy sew.  I decided that since this was being made out of stretch fabric I would add an elastic waist.  Because I cut this on the lengthwise grain and because I didn't have much yardage, I had to cut out View D.  This view only had darts and not the extra fabric needed to make the pleats.  According to my measurements I needed to cut out a size 14.  Because I am shorter, I adjusted the length of culottes by 4 inches, giv...

It's StyleArc Season: Ivy Knit Top

I have been collecting StyleArc patterns like crazy.  So I have decided that this year  I am going to dedicate myself to using all of those patterns that I have collected.  The wonderful thing about StyleArc is that they are easy patterns, but so stylish at the same time.  I seem to be at point in my life where I really like "easy to where" items.   I've had this StyleArc Ivy pattern in my stash for quite awhile: I decided to use this reversible knit fabric that I found at JoAnn's:   I love how one side has polka dots and the other stripes.  I knew this would be perfect for this top as I wouldn't have to find other fabric for contrast.  Once I cut out the pieces I had to decide how I wanted the contrast to work, so I laid out the pattern pieces and played until I found something I liked.  So easy to do with this fabric, all you had to do was just flip it over to the other side!  However once you started sewing you ...

Dot Dot Dot Cowl

Every year I go to DC with my husband.  Unfortunately we go in February when it is cold and this year is was super cold!!  We also usually take time to go visit daughter #1 and her husband in NY.  When I go I like to bring her something just to tell her I appreciate her letting us stay with them in their small apartment.  So since the weather was going to be cold I brought along a wonderful wool project. Last fall I found this wonderful kit being sold by Interweave.   It was featured in the Fall 2015 Knit Purl magazine by Mari Chiba and can be found here on Ravelry.   The yarn used is a wonderful wool worsted by Freia Handpaints.  Once I saw it I fell in love with it instantly.  I bought it thinking I would get it done for a Christmas present.  Well of course that didn't happen.  So I bundled up the yarn and pattern and took it with me on this trip.  While I do a lot of sightseeing on my own while hubby is in meetings I al...

What happened to December, January, February and most of March??

For awhile there I was doing really well and then... Well stuff happens.  The other day I was trying to figure out some way to organize all of my projects etc and I looked online for all sorts of products etc.  and then I realized I did start a blog and this is where I was supposed to do all of that!! So here we go again.   First of all the biggest news I have is that I have a new sewing machine!!!  Yup hubby finally said go get one...well he's been wanting for me to get one for quite awhile but I just didn't feel like I needed a new one.   But the Bernina company was having a zero financing promotion and we found a promo machine on sale in Omaha!!  (Just don't ask me how much...let's just say I can never, ever, ever ask for anything again!!) And boy has she been fun!  The BSR foot is everything that they say it is. Quilting was so much easier, I just had to remember to slow it down a little. And the bigger throat plate is just wonderf...

What happened to November?

Wow so much has happened this month!   Where do I start? Well first of all the Royals won the World Series! During the final game I got my knitting out to ease my nerves.  At the 7th inning this happened....so I started another hat! It was a marvelous series !   And then there was a parade like no other!    We did not go... look at all of those people!!  Imagine trying to find a bathroom... nope watching from afar was good enough for me! I extended my cancer hat knitting to November.  I ended up with 7 hats, 3 went to a good friend, 2 others went to friends who wanted them for their friends and another went to a breast cancer survivor.  I have 2 left that I will donate.  This was so much fun and I was so happy to help others out. I am averaging about 2 baby quilts a month so that has kept me busy.  This month there were a few more than usual..   I made this for one of my good friend's d...

End of the month frenzy

It's almost the end of the month and I am making a mad dash to get the last of my Chemo hats done.  I got this cute thing done the other night: Doesn't Viola look fabulous?  This is a great quick knit and the pattern is from Craftsy .  I did re-do the bill and used double strands, making the bill just a little bit more sturdy.   A friend gave me some yarn thinking I could make something out of it.  I am sure I am not the only knitter with good friends like this!   It only takes one ball of bulky yarn and in the stash from my friend there were 3 balls of bulky yarn that works perfectly for this pattern.  It might be stretch to get two more done by tomorrow (Oct. 31st) but there are at least two more World Series games so just maybe.... Daughter #3 also wanted to a Halloween costume.  Did I mention that she is 20?  In case you don't know, college students really love to dress up for Halloween!  She wants to be Wednesday...
