End of the month frenzy

It's almost the end of the month and I am making a mad dash to get the last of my Chemo hats done. I got this cute thing done the other night:

Doesn't Viola look fabulous? This is a great quick knit and the pattern is from Craftsy. I did re-do the bill and used double strands, making the bill just a little bit more sturdy. A friend gave me some yarn thinking I could make something out of it. I am sure I am not the only knitter with good friends like this! It only takes one ball of bulky yarn and in the stash from my friend there were 3 balls of bulky yarn that works perfectly for this pattern.

It might be stretch to get two more done by tomorrow (Oct. 31st) but there are at least two more World Series games so just maybe....

Daughter #3 also wanted to a Halloween costume. Did I mention that she is 20? In case you don't know, college students really love to dress up for Halloween! She wants to be Wednesday Adams. It was pretty easy, she gets a dress for Halloween and also a dress to wear whenever she wants. And of course I had the perfect pattern:

Wednesday's dress doesn't have the same neck line but I thought this style was close enough. I blogged about this pattern before. I love this pattern. I almost want to keep it for myself, who knows maybe she will get tired of it!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic. But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again. There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant". There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized. At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated. We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Sewing interruptions

Sometimes the sewing needs to get put aside for real life. This is one of those times. My husband and I have lately been maniacs about our house remodel. Early this year, what started out to be painting walls ended up in a total remodel of our upstairs... New doors, bathroom sinks, new bathroom floor, kitchen countertops, stained cupboards, kitchen tile etc etc It took us 7 months. I thought we would take a break. He wanted to redo the landscape in the front. So out can 25 yr old bushes, a basketball goal etc etc I thought we would take a break. Now we are repainting our house...in July...when the heat index is 110!! The mister clearly needs to leave town and quickly... please someone call a water conference ASAP!!!

Book Shelf Retirement Quilt

Another woman is retiring from the library. Mary has been a large part of the library quilting group and has been involved in so many retirement quilts for others. So many of the original library quilting group have retired and she was basically one of the last ones left. Three of us from the library along with three others who work on campus or are retired librarians decided to work on a quilt for her. And now that it is her turn and we wanted to make her something really nice.We know she wanted a book shelf quilt and we used this pattern to make her one: Everyone used the same background fabric and we used our stash to make the bookends. When I put them together, the scrappiness of all the bookends gave the quilt such a wonderful look.
