Another Etsy Order

I've been working on an Etsy Order... another navy Farm Quilt.

For this quilt, the customer did not want buttons for the eyes or nostrils since it was for a baby.  I knew I could applique the nostrils but wasn't quite sure about the eyes.  Then I as I sat there contemplating what to do, I realized I could just use my embroidery machine and embroider the eyes. I ended up using a ".", enlarging it a little and there it was... two eyes!  I may have to use this method from now on!!

I was particularly happy with the FMQ on this quilt.  I am not sure why but it just looked better.  I did adjust the stitch length and shortened up the meandering.

It is off to the new owners so hopefully they will enjoy it!

I finally bought a new iron board and this one is a little wider than the standard size.  I love it!  I also realized that when I set up next to my cutting table it helps expand my work surface just a little bit more.  My hubby claims that I am pretty easy to please if a new ironing board can bring me that much happiness!

P.S. The ironing board is from Target and after reading the reviews I did purchase and additional cover since the reviews indicated that the original cover is a little thin.  I just put the new one over the original and things are prefect!!  It is a little pricey but in my opinion totally worth the price!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them are rushing to get va

Craft night!

Daughter #3 and I have been wanting to do a craft night for quite awhile. When our local studio offered this Map String Art class I knew we just had to go!  The class was set up to do the map in red, white and blue.  We didn't want to have two of the same thing so I decided to do mine in different colors.  I went out and bought ... you guessed it .. purple and white string!! We had so much fun!!  think they turned out pretty well!  Here's a close up of mine after I cleaned it up: This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  They used this site for their inspiration: http://thetwinery.com/2013/08/inspired-by-pinterest-map-twine-art.html I think I'd like to do one of our home state of Kansas next.  Pinterst had some pretty good sites; http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2014/10/missouri-love.html#_a5y_p=2693507 And finally here's a picture of our class: I can't wait for our next craft night!!

Capsule Wardrobe

I have thought about doing a capsule wardrobe for quite awhile.  Now that the season is changing I thought I would see if I can make it work.  I scoured the web and Pinterest for information.  I found this great site that at least helped me find a starting spot.   One of the tips was to chose a base color, black or blue and go from there.  Black was the obvious choice for me. I need to say that I decided to start this project at 9pm at night.  I decided to clean out my closet at 9pm, was I crazy?  Yes, but I forged on... I cleaned out my closet, then I started with pants, skirts, tops etc.  I used the website to help me figure out what I needed.  Long sleeve knits, in three basic colors, grey, white and black.  Same for the short sleeves.  Then I moved to the next thing skirts, three skirts, grey, black and denim.  Next was sweaters, grey, black....are you starting to see a pattern?  I realized as I moved through the list I had a majority of the items already.  Basics in neutral c
