Happy February!

Well it's finally February and everyone on the APQ Challenge has been anxiously awaiting the release of the the next UFO number.....drum roll please....#8!

My #8 on both lists is so lame, so once again I made some additions to my list:

I have a feeling I'll be doing that alot!  Aside from that list here my other February items that I would like to get done:
  • Finish the green ponte knit Style Arc Estelle Jacket
  • Finish blocks 1 & 2 of Leah Day's Machine Quilt Challenge
  • Do something with my purple Mood Fabric
  • Do something with my Sarah's Fabric grey knit
It's a pretty bold list considering I'll be gone for the last week and half of the month and Sarah will be here visiting so I'll lose the first weekend.  Basically I only 2 of the 4 weekends this month to get things done... ouch.

January was productive so I will stay optimistic!  As I said, I got so much done last weekend!  On Sunday night I decided I would force myself to start work on the Estelle jacket.  At 7:15pm I decided to trace the pattern to the size I wanted.  With lots of time left, I decided to cut out the fabric,  Well  one thing led to another and by 11:30pm that night the jacket was done!

This is a pretty easy jacket.  Since it requires a ponte knit and it does not ravel, the edges of the jacket are raw...no finishing at all!  To keep things looking a little more professional I did a modified flat felled seam.  Since I sewed this with a 3/8 in seam allowance I simply trimmed one side of the seam then ironed the other seam (non-trimmed) on top of that.  After I top stitched that seam down and I had  a very professional finished look.   I did that with all the seams...back, neck and shoulder, arm holes, side seams and sleeve seams.

And 4 hours after I started I had this:

And the next morning I wore this to work:

I realized after I had put it on that it was a Style Arc kind of day as I was wearing my Style Arc Elle pants.  Super comfy day at work!

Notes:  The jacket is just a tad bit large so I went one size down with the green ponte.  It is all cut out and ready to sew!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them are rushing to get va

Craft night!

Daughter #3 and I have been wanting to do a craft night for quite awhile. When our local studio offered this Map String Art class I knew we just had to go!  The class was set up to do the map in red, white and blue.  We didn't want to have two of the same thing so I decided to do mine in different colors.  I went out and bought ... you guessed it .. purple and white string!! We had so much fun!!  think they turned out pretty well!  Here's a close up of mine after I cleaned it up: This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  They used this site for their inspiration: http://thetwinery.com/2013/08/inspired-by-pinterest-map-twine-art.html I think I'd like to do one of our home state of Kansas next.  Pinterst had some pretty good sites; http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2014/10/missouri-love.html#_a5y_p=2693507 And finally here's a picture of our class: I can't wait for our next craft night!!

Capsule Wardrobe

I have thought about doing a capsule wardrobe for quite awhile.  Now that the season is changing I thought I would see if I can make it work.  I scoured the web and Pinterest for information.  I found this great site that at least helped me find a starting spot.   One of the tips was to chose a base color, black or blue and go from there.  Black was the obvious choice for me. I need to say that I decided to start this project at 9pm at night.  I decided to clean out my closet at 9pm, was I crazy?  Yes, but I forged on... I cleaned out my closet, then I started with pants, skirts, tops etc.  I used the website to help me figure out what I needed.  Long sleeve knits, in three basic colors, grey, white and black.  Same for the short sleeves.  Then I moved to the next thing skirts, three skirts, grey, black and denim.  Next was sweaters, grey, black....are you starting to see a pattern?  I realized as I moved through the list I had a majority of the items already.  Basics in neutral c
