Block of the month

So I decided I would try to participate in a "Block of the Month Sew Along".  It's the end of July, and seven months into the sew along and I have not done a single thing....until this week.

I don't understand why I thought this was so hard and now I know why people can participate in this! Maybe it was because I just couldn't decide on the fabric, I don't know.   I literally decided to work on the pink block on Sunday night at 8!  I cut the blocks out and had them all put together by 10:30.  Only had to rip once!

I got the other block done on Monday night.  And now it's Friday and I haven't been in the sewing room since Monday.

I also realized I had a limited amount of the white swirl fabric and there will probably be not enough for 12 blocks.  I've looked all over the internet for "Spill The Beans Swirls" by Barbara Tourtillotte for Clothworks"  and I haven't found it.

It looks yellow beige in the picture but it's really and truly white on white.  I have decided that I would make as many blocks as I can with this fabric and then I will use KONA white for the rest.  I am telling myself that it will be just fine.

I hesitated to make this quilt because I didn't know what I would do with it.  But Allison commented to me that she liked the traditional quilt blocks.  So maybe this will have a home after all!!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them are rushing to get va

Craft night!

Daughter #3 and I have been wanting to do a craft night for quite awhile. When our local studio offered this Map String Art class I knew we just had to go!  The class was set up to do the map in red, white and blue.  We didn't want to have two of the same thing so I decided to do mine in different colors.  I went out and bought ... you guessed it .. purple and white string!! We had so much fun!!  think they turned out pretty well!  Here's a close up of mine after I cleaned it up: This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  They used this site for their inspiration: http://thetwinery.com/2013/08/inspired-by-pinterest-map-twine-art.html I think I'd like to do one of our home state of Kansas next.  Pinterst had some pretty good sites; http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2014/10/missouri-love.html#_a5y_p=2693507 And finally here's a picture of our class: I can't wait for our next craft night!!

Capsule Wardrobe

I have thought about doing a capsule wardrobe for quite awhile.  Now that the season is changing I thought I would see if I can make it work.  I scoured the web and Pinterest for information.  I found this great site that at least helped me find a starting spot.   One of the tips was to chose a base color, black or blue and go from there.  Black was the obvious choice for me. I need to say that I decided to start this project at 9pm at night.  I decided to clean out my closet at 9pm, was I crazy?  Yes, but I forged on... I cleaned out my closet, then I started with pants, skirts, tops etc.  I used the website to help me figure out what I needed.  Long sleeve knits, in three basic colors, grey, white and black.  Same for the short sleeves.  Then I moved to the next thing skirts, three skirts, grey, black and denim.  Next was sweaters, grey, black....are you starting to see a pattern?  I realized as I moved through the list I had a majority of the items already.  Basics in neutral c
