Ft. Collins quilting and knitting heaven!

In June I went on trip to Fr. Collins with hubby, he had a meeting and I was ready for a little get away.  We drove to Ft. Collins so I was able to take as much stuff as I wanted....and guess what went with me?  You are right... my sewing machine and a couple of projects!

The hotel room had the perfect set up for the sewing machine.

I found out that Joann's was less than 5 minutes away and I was set!   Hubby was so busy that between Sunday when we arrived and Thursday when we left, I only had two meals with him.. Sunday night and another one on Tuesday where we dined with other faculty members.  So that meant lots of time for me to explore and craft.

Can I just say that Ft. Collins has some of the very best quilting and knitting stores around!! WOW....it is a good think that I DO NOT live there!  While I was there I was able to meet up with an old aquaintance, our kids were all basically the same age and were in the same 4-H club.  They moved to Ft. Collins about 3 years ago so she spent some time showing me around and taking me to some fabulous knitting a quilting stores since she know that was my hobby.

Here are ones that you just can't miss if you are going to Ft. Collins:

The  Fig Leaf: This is a fabulous quilt store that also has sewing machines and some really neat furniture.  They had some beautiful cotton double gauze, but I resisted.

Sewing Circle:  This was another gem of  a store.  While I was there they were having a quilting class.  While I was there I found some fabulous light weight breathable quilting gloves!  They also has the Sewing Room Sampler hanging and I just fell in love with it!  Lucky for me they did not have the quilt kit or the pattern!

Jukebox Quilts:  This was located in a cool little place in Old Town Ft. Collins.  Their upstairs is a quilting studio where you can rent time on one of their long arm machines.

Loopy Ewe:  This place was a total gem.  I was totally unprepared when I walked in.  This store is located in a new outdoor shopping center on the second floor of what looks like a suite of offices.  I wasn't prepared for how much was in the store!  The first half is a yarn store with beautiful yarn and some that were even their own line!  The back half of the store is devoted to quilting fabric.. heaven in one place!!  I was so good until I got to this place.  I did manage to avoid the yarn but I couldn't walk away without buying the Swedish Postcard quilt.

I have the free pattern for this from Craftsy but I was a little nervous about finding the right fabric.  It was like the Loopy Ewe knew I needed to come in and get one from them!!  And of course I couldn't resist getting a new project tote.

As for the yarn stores:

Well we already discussed the Loopy Ewe.  They also have patterns on ravelry!

Your Daily Fiber:  This is a smaller yarn store but it had some cute hand dyed yarn done by the father of the owner.

Lambspun: This store is a total home run!  It is located in a historic farm complex. There is also a small little breakfast place and the aroma was just heavenly!  They have many of their own hand dyed yarn include some made out of buffalo hair.  This place is a must for those who love yarn!!

I didn't make it to My Sister Knits as their website looks super promising!

Another thing that Dan and I found was the Colorado State Annual Test Gardens.  We were in garden heaven! All Dan could say was "Why didn't we plant this, and this and this!!"

As I said, I did bring my sewing machine and got lots done!

Aside from all the quilt and yarn stores another plus was the Colorado State Annual Flower Trail Garden.  AMAZING! And across the street they had a perennial garden.   Dan and I just "ooh" and "awed" over all the beautiful annuals.  The dahlias were fabulous.  I would love to come back in the early fall to see what the garden looks like.  I wish we had something like this at home.

This trip really covered all of my greatest loves....knitting, quilting and gardening!!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them ar...

Updated Porch

So creativity for me isn't always about fiber, it applies to just about every aspect of my life.  My latest adventure has to do with my front porch. There have been many memories made on this front porch. My bench has captured many "first day" of school photos, family gatherings and all sorts of milestones such as first communions, proms etc.  maybe that's why it's been so hard to make changes.  The memories aren't going away and there are lots of new memories to make.    But I digress... The front porch.   This front porch has had these barrels for as long as I can remember. They've been a focal point.  Know what happens to a barel that's been around for that long? Yup... The bottom falls out!!   It was definitely time!! The bench stays, I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to that one yet.  Here's to many more photos and memories on this front porch!!

My first "I made it" week!!

Well this was my very first "I made it" week and even though the weather wasn't the best I think it was a success.  Friday was my last day and as you can see from the collage above this was my choice for the day: Looks a lot like the pattern right?  This was so easy to put together especially since there wasn't a zipper.  This was cut as a size 8, something that I am still not used to.  I still add extra on the hips so I grade it out to a size 12.  My daughter would say that my clothes are too loose but I would say that they are nice and comfy!!  This pattern essentially has 2 collars to achieve the look.  I skipped the pockets.  I find that unless they are stitched down they usually add bulk to the sides.  I realize that most people leave reviews on the pattern and that is something that I have neglected to do so here goes.... Pattern sizing:  size 8 graded to a size 12'at the hips.  Did it look like the photo/drawi...
