Another Quilt Retreat

It's been a busy March so far and it all started with a Spring Quilt Retreat with my favorite "Crazy Eights"!

We tried a different venue for our quilt retreat and I would say we hit a home run with Sew Cozy Quilt Lodge.  The place sleeps 10 with five bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.  Each "themed" bedroom has a twin bed...and I say "themed" because the decor in each bedroom is just cute as can be.  The best part about the place is the quilt/sewing room!  Each person has 2 two tables and a design wall!!

We had seven of our members present for this retreat and there was so much beauty being created!

The "LOVE" squares were my work.  For the first day I decided I would tackle a UFO which really wasn't a quilting project.  I had an old rocking chair that needed a new slipcover.  I have had the fabric for several months.  I didn't have much motivation to work on the slipcover.  I order to go on the retreat I told myself I had to work on the slipcover.   I tried to mark all the pieces as I took the slipcover apart but then I couldn't remember how exactly to put it back together.  Luckily there were big enough chairs there that I could lay out all the pieces like a jigsaw puzzle.  I must say I think it turned out pretty good!

I found this pillow pattern in one of the latest quilt magazines and knew it would be prefect for the Island Batik "Spring Fling" charm packs that I had picked up.  I also have a layer cake and jelly roll that I may use for a lap quilt.  But that may have to be a project for next year.

I also started work on a the LOVE quilt pattern using the MODA Grunge line.  I wasn't too sure when I started out but as I got more blocks done my feelings changed.  I turned this into a paper piecing project.  I had never done any paper piecing before but this video helped me understand the process.  It really made things much easier, once I got the hang of thinking backwards!

Take a look at the work space at this quilt lodge!

I can not wait until our next retreat!!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them ar...

Another trip last fall , this time Boston

As soon as I got home from NY last November, I turned around and left for Boston, to visit the Princess. It was so nice to see her again.  I came in on Thursday and left on Sunday.  It was another short visit, but we sure packed a lot in! It was bitterly cold in Boston, in fact it was the coldest all year and they were setting records for low temperatures in the evening.  But that did not stop us from venturing out! On Friday she took me on a tour of her school and her classroom.  And as we were leaving I got to meet the teacher she is working with.  The school is so convenient,  just a short 15 minute walk from their apartment. We also explored Brookline a neighborhood that is just a few blocks from them.  It is full of wonderful restaurants and cute boutiques.  We found a knitting store and some wonderful children's stores.  It was so hard not to buy a bunch of things for the grand!! We stopped and had lunch, and thawe...

And the UFO for May Is....

I've been a little busy so there are lots of things for me to catch up on.  First of all I did not get much done on the UFO Challenge for April.  I did get some baby booties done and delivered.  I do hope that the moms will send me pictures of their little ones with cute little feet. As far as quilting is concerned.. not much got accomplished in April, maybe May will be more productive. The UFO for May is..... And according to my lists this is what I have scheduled..... The good news is that I started my LOVE quilt in March when I was on the quilt retreat.  The LOVE blocks are all done.  I have a few more small squares to cut up but then I should be able start sewing on it again.  Knitting is always difficult.  I should of worked on the cowl while I was on a conference last week but I needed to get some booties done for some upcoming new mamas. Because of this week long conference,  I have had a chance to get lots of knittin...
