It's March and what happened to February?

You Well it is March....which means that there is a new UFO Challenge.  And that number is....TWELVE!

The Lone Star Quilt is a real UFO.  I must of started it years ago when the kids were really young and never managed to finish it.

I bought this yarn about 5 years ago on my first trip to NY.  I was there over Labor Day weekend and Sarah took me to the Lion Bran NY Flagship store.  I manged to use up most of the yarn I bought there but still have a couple of balls that will be used for a wonderful cowl.

I had a bunch of things that I wanted to blog about but just didn't get it done.  So what else got finished in February?  Well here's a quick overview of what I had been working on since my last post:

My daughter had three baby showers.  And I thought why not try to get all of those congrats and well-wishes into one place and what better way than in a signature quilt?  I used this tutorial for the pattern.

For the past 3 years, a good friend and I teach a 4-H sewing class once a month.  This past month we taught these little cuties how to make tea towel aprons.  And from the smiles on their faces I think they are going to have a great time cooking!  I used this tutorial.

I also made #5, #6 and #7 of the Style Arc Estelle Jacket.  I made another olive green one for my youngest daughter and one out of navy (color isn't quite right in the picture below). The navy was from the same line as the olive fabric which I found at Joann's and was blogged about here.  In these versions I did add pockets as seen in the photo below. (Ignore the mark on her forehead, it is Ash Wednesday and she had gone to mass).  I also made a navy version for myself...that makes 3 Estelle Jackets for me!  This is just one of those tried and true patterns that everyone has to have in their closet!!

And I also managed to finish the pillows that were in my February UFO Challenge.  I made 2 red and 2 green pillows out of fabric I had bought before the holidays.  I also decided to make some pillows for spring, a white pleated linen pillow cover ($20 version at Marshall's) and a lace light teal pillow cover (another $20 version at Home Goods).  With a 50% off coupon at Joann's, it's hard to justify buying the pillows!!

And last but not least I finished another pair of grey booties for one of my oldest daughter's NY friend who just had a baby boy.

So what didn't get done in February that I wanted to do?
  • Finish blocks 1 & 2 of Leah Day's Machine Quilt Challenge
  • Do something with my purple Mood Fabric
  • Do something with my Sarah's Fabric grey knit

Hmmm.....let's see what gets done in March!

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them are rushing to get va

Craft night!

Daughter #3 and I have been wanting to do a craft night for quite awhile. When our local studio offered this Map String Art class I knew we just had to go!  The class was set up to do the map in red, white and blue.  We didn't want to have two of the same thing so I decided to do mine in different colors.  I went out and bought ... you guessed it .. purple and white string!! We had so much fun!!  think they turned out pretty well!  Here's a close up of mine after I cleaned it up: This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  They used this site for their inspiration: http://thetwinery.com/2013/08/inspired-by-pinterest-map-twine-art.html I think I'd like to do one of our home state of Kansas next.  Pinterst had some pretty good sites; http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2014/10/missouri-love.html#_a5y_p=2693507 And finally here's a picture of our class: I can't wait for our next craft night!!

Capsule Wardrobe

I have thought about doing a capsule wardrobe for quite awhile.  Now that the season is changing I thought I would see if I can make it work.  I scoured the web and Pinterest for information.  I found this great site that at least helped me find a starting spot.   One of the tips was to chose a base color, black or blue and go from there.  Black was the obvious choice for me. I need to say that I decided to start this project at 9pm at night.  I decided to clean out my closet at 9pm, was I crazy?  Yes, but I forged on... I cleaned out my closet, then I started with pants, skirts, tops etc.  I used the website to help me figure out what I needed.  Long sleeve knits, in three basic colors, grey, white and black.  Same for the short sleeves.  Then I moved to the next thing skirts, three skirts, grey, black and denim.  Next was sweaters, grey, black....are you starting to see a pattern?  I realized as I moved through the list I had a majority of the items already.  Basics in neutral c
