Make 9 in 2018

So I have been intrigued on what kind of challenges I can do in 2018 to:

  1. Use up my fabric stash
  2. Work on some kits/projects I have had for awhile
  3. Do more fashion sewing

Of course I am doing the 2018 UFO Challenge, I am also doing a 2018 BOM (well maybe one or two...more on that later).  And I found this 2018 Make Nine Challenge .

Rochelle of Lucky Lucille started this in 2017.   It's basically nine things that you want to make this year.  It can be fiber (knitting), fashion sewing or even quilting.  But these are wearable items.  And I thought well this is just the thing for me.  Making nine items should be pretty easy right?   I hope so, considering it is February and I still have yet to make my first item.

I first needed to decide what nine things I wanted to make.  That was pretty easy considering all the patterns and fabric that I have in my stash.  Here is my first go at my "Make Nine":

So let's look at this list a little more closely:

I have had this grey knit fabric picked out for this pattern for quite awhile. It will make an nice addition for the Spring and the Fall.

This pattern and fabric has also been in my stash.  I made this in a grey knit last fall and loved it so much I went out and bought this knit the next day.  And it has been sitting in the to-do pile ever since!!

The fabric has been in my stash for quite awhile and I've been in the hunt for the right pattern.  I think this will be a good look for the summer especially with large white rick rack.

I must say this COCO top has been on my list for quite awhile.  I am looking at making this in a top with the cowl.  Although a dress with black pockets looks pretty good too!

I have a fascination with this pattern and I haven't even made it yet.  I know I do want a top and a dress.  I'm trying this one out for a dress but also have some knit purple that might work just as well. At least the dress made the Make 9 list!

This McCall's pattern is a tried and true one.  I made a similar striped dress but have just worn it out so now it is time for a replacement!

This is another tried and true pattern.  This fabric was purchased in the NY district and is perfect for this pattern.  I have a black pair in an ankle length and would like another pair that is just a tad bit longer.

I can not say enough about this pattern. I have made it 7 times and blogged about it here and here.  Since this is purple country what better than a purple jacket?  I went through the fashion district of NY looking for the perfect ponte knit and found it at B&J fabrics!

I have wanted a light pink jacket for quite awhile this Style Arc pattern has been with me for a quite awhile.  This past fall I found this beautiful pink ponte knit at Jo Ann's.  They had had the ponte knit in olive, black and navy which I had bought for the Style Arc Estelle Jacket.  I figured it would be perfect for this pattern.  I am hoping that while this is #9 on the list I can get this done for the spring season!

There you have it my Make Nine for 2018 list!!

Book Shelf Retirement Quilt

Another woman is retiring from the library.  Mary has been a large part of the library quilting group and has been involved in so many retirement quilts for others.  So many of the original library quilting group have retired and she was basically one of the last ones left.  Three of us from the library along with three others who work on campus or are retired librarians decided to work on a quilt for her.  And now that it is her turn and we wanted to make her something really nice.We know she wanted a book shelf quilt and we used this pattern to make her one: Everyone used the same background fabric and we used our stash to make the bookends.  When I put them together, the scrappiness of all the bookends gave the quilt such a wonderful look.  The sashing in between the blocks was used to have colleagues sign and leave messages of farewell and good luck for Mary.  I made three of the blocks for this quilt.  The first block in on the second row and has a the purple books and the

Another Quilt Retreat

It's been a busy March so far and it all started with a Spring Quilt Retreat with my favorite "Crazy Eights"! We tried a different venue for our quilt retreat and I would say we hit a home run with Sew Cozy Quilt Lodge .  The place sleeps 10 with five bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.  Each "themed" bedroom has a twin bed...and I say "themed" because the decor in each bedroom is just cute as can be.  The best part about the place is the quilt/sewing room!  Each person has 2 two tables and a design wall!! We had seven of our members present for this retreat and there was so much beauty being created! The "LOVE" squares were my work.  For the first day I decided I would tackle a UFO which really wasn't a quilting project.  I had an old rocking chair that needed a new slipcover.  I have had the fabric for several months.  I didn't have much motivation to work on the slipcover.  I order to go on the retreat I told myself I had to work on

It's the weekend!

It's the weekend and my head is just spinning with all the things that I want to get done! Do I work on the first block of Leah Day's Machine  Quilting Block Party?                                                                             Do I keep the same color combinations or do I make it scrappy and try to use scraps from my stash? Or do I just buy a bunch of the same fabric and make all the blocks the same?  So many choices and so many decisions!!     I also have 2 orders on my Etsy site which need to get started.  My goal for the store this year was to try to get at list one quilt order a month and so far I am there.  The next one will look just like the last one I did but she does not want buttons used for the eyes and nostrils: I also want to work on my Style Arc Estelle Jacket. I bought these ponte knit from Joann's.  I made both colors for my oldest daughter and they just fit the pattern style so well.  I went back and bought more ya
