Elephant and Chevron Nursery Basket Set

I have been busy making nursery accessories for a very dear friend's daughter.  The daughter who happens to be a good friend of my daughter #1 asked if I would make some fabric hampers and basket for their new baby.  I of course said yes, thinking it would be lots of fun and super easy.

Well I always seem to underestimate projects, supplies and etc.  She asked for 2 fabric hampers and 4 fabric baskets, all to fit an older entertainment center that they were converting for their nursery.  They had grey and mint picked out for nursery colors.  After a few emails back and forth we came up with some grey and mint chevron fabric and some elephant fabric from Premier Prints.

The first laundry hamper took me 3 nights, the second one only one evening.  Once I got things figured out the process was much smoother!

For the fabric baskets I used a pattern from Noodlehead.  I love this divided basket pattern.  Not only is there a divider on the inside, but there is also an outside pocket for the basket.

I made two baskets with the original pattern size 7.5in wide by 8in tall x 11in deep.  This size is perfect for diapers, wipes, ointments etc.

I then adjusted the pattern and made a larger size that was 11in tall 11in wide and 17in deep.  I omitted the outside pocket for this version.  I think she was planning on using these baskets to store baby clothes, sleepers, burp cloths etc.

And then added the outside pocket for the next version:

I also made another coordinating large basket that did not have a divider.  This would be great for larger items such as towels, blankets, crib sheets etc.

Put it all together and the set is adorable:

Hint:  Don't bother using fusible fleece as the pattern suggests.  Instead I used Soft and Stable.  This stuff is the absolute best!!  It sews like a dream and is soft and stable just like it's name!!  It's a little pricey but well worth every penny you spend on it.

I took a guess on what this set would cost based on Etsy prices and I came up with $620!  The cost to make them was about $260!  I do hope the new mom loves it as much as I do!  Who knows I might put these up on my Etsy site....

Here we are again...

As I started my blog adventures again, I decided to spend a few posts reflecting on life during the hieght of the pandemic.  But now, after a few months of various vaccines being available, and a few months of mask mandates being lifted and the hope of life returning to normal.... mask mandates are now coming into effect again.  There is a surge in variants of COVID, especially the "Delta variant".  There are increases in those testing postive and increases in those being hospitalized.  At this time only 45% of Kansans and 50% of the US population are vaccinated.  We are a long ways from herd immunity people!! On Friday K-State issued the mask mandate again just as employees are heading back to campus today. USD383 issued a mask mandate for everyone and as far as I can tell when kids return in the fall: I just feel like we are going backwards instead of forwards. Most of those that are being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated and many of them ar...

Craft night!

Daughter #3 and I have been wanting to do a craft night for quite awhile. When our local studio offered this Map String Art class I knew we just had to go!  The class was set up to do the map in red, white and blue.  We didn't want to have two of the same thing so I decided to do mine in different colors.  I went out and bought ... you guessed it .. purple and white string!! We had so much fun!!  think they turned out pretty well!  Here's a close up of mine after I cleaned it up: This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  They used this site for their inspiration: http://thetwinery.com/2013/08/inspired-by-pinterest-map-twine-art.html I think I'd like to do one of our home state of Kansas next.  Pinterst had some pretty good sites; http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2014/10/missouri-love.html#_a5y_p=2693507 And finally here's a picture of our class: I can't wait for our next craft night!!

Capsule Wardrobe

I have thought about doing a capsule wardrobe for quite awhile.  Now that the season is changing I thought I would see if I can make it work.  I scoured the web and Pinterest for information.  I found this great site that at least helped me find a starting spot.   One of the tips was to chose a base color, black or blue and go from there.  Black was the obvious choice for me. I need to say that I decided to start this project at 9pm at night.  I decided to clean out my closet at 9pm, was I crazy?  Yes, but I forged on... I cleaned out my closet, then I started with pants, skirts, tops etc.  I used the website to help me figure out what I needed.  Long sleeve knits, in three basic colors, grey, white and black.  Same for the short sleeves.  Then I moved to the next thing skirts, three skirts, grey, black and denim.  Next was sweaters, grey, black....are you starting to see a pattern?  I realized as I moved through the ...
